Gene, go to Start>Run type: msconfig select Startup Tab. Look in
there for any program you can uncheck and do without on Startup. Go into the
Bios and set the Hard Drive as first boot device. Disable Floppy Seek.
What is your XP load time anyway? Performance depends on hardware, how many
programs you load at start up and various conflicts you might have in the
above. Here are a few hints - but you can google for more:
1. Check your BIOS Settings - Enable 32Bit disk access, disable whatever you
do not use (FireWire, Paralel/Serial/USB Ports), disable PnP OS (set to No).
2. Remove from start up anything you don't need there - Acrobat, updaters...
whatever.
3. Make sure there's no boot virus/adware/indexing etc scan.
4. Delete anything in Windows/Prefetch folder
5. Defrag at boot
6. Use Bootvis to speed up the boot - ignore what MS says.
Thanks for the info. Just the XP window is 25-30 seconds. I'll try your
suggestions. Thanks again.
