Redirecting Folder to Mapped Drives

From the "Frequently Asked Questions for IntelliMirror User Profiles and
Folder Redirection" on TechNet - http://redirectfolders.notlong.com:

"I'm trying to redirect the My Documents folder to a mapped drive, and it
keeps failing. How do I do this?"

"Because folder redirection is processed early in the logon process, drives
mapped via logon scripts (including the homedrive for folders other than My
Documents), the folder redirection client side extension is not able to
redirect to these locations. At the time that redirection takes place, the
drives do not exist hence redirection fails."

My question is: If you map the drive via a startup script in the Computer
Configuration section of Group Policy, will the redirection still fail?

Why do you want to use a mapped network drive, why not just a unc \\comptuername\share\%username%
You can still map the network drive in a logon script.

Hi

I have a similar problem, unfortunately not solved by \\computername\share\%username% in Group Policy settings as there exists already a share with all the AD users home folders but not by username, rather by name, to be precise
Firstname Surname + the word "Private

I come from the UNIX world and don't know much about Microsoft syntax, is there a way to replace %username% with wildcards / tokens / variables etc to reflect "Firstname Surname Private" after \\computername\share\

(I am not interested in mapping the desktop to the file server, that would be to heavy load on the network
