RedHat 9 - ATI Card suggestions?

Thomas Tootle

Greetings,
I'm trying to get a Redhat 9 install working. Current hardware is as
follows:
Epox 8RDA3G
Athlon 2800XP
1 Gb RAM
ATI Radeon 9700Pro
WD 80 Gb harddrive
If I leave it running for any length of time it hard crashes and I must hard
boot to get it running again.

This was a fresh install as of this week. I've never had a linux box I
couldn't leave running 24/7. I had the screensavers running but it is open
GL which isn't supported with this video card so I set it to just go to
blank screen. Still hard crashes with the caps lock and scroll lock lights
flashing simultaneously. Any suggestions?

I also have Radeon 7200, 8500, and 9600 Pro cards available as well as a
Geforce3 ti 500. If any of these will work with less hassle I'm willing to
install them. TIA.

What driver are you using and is this a new machine?

Use the GeForce3 TI 500. nvidia has a lot better driver support for Linux
than ATI. And I've never owned Nvidia!

I've got an 8500DV running on RH9 rock solid with just the drivers it had on
the install disk.

Nvidia drivers are FAR superior for Linux, they actually employ people to write
them rather than leave it for the community to write current drivers.

So who writes the drivers that ATI puts on their web site?
