When I add records to the Child, I am only adding
entries to Field 1-4, I am not adding anything to the ParentTable_ID.

Very likely it is. If you have the Form/SubForm link set up correctly,
though, it should do that automatically for you.

I grew up on "Wells" Blue Bunny, the only product down here are a few
flavors of low fat yogurt. No Ice Cream like "Van and Bon Bon"

:-) Naturally, it's my favorite ice cream. When you get a chance you have
to try Peanut Butter Panic.

I went to the Child Table and hit the "add record" button, the cursor went to
the ParentTable_ID field I entered 1600 (a new number), the next field
ChildTable_ID is an autonumber...23 automatically was entered....numbers 1
through 1563 all ready exist as this was automatically created as the key.

Any Ideas?

Dear Lynn:

Speaking of Blue Bunny ice cream...

As a faithful newsgroup reader, I've always wanted to try "Lynn's" ice
cream. However, Blue Bunny products aren't available here in Canada. This
past summer, while travelling on Canada's east coast, I was at a hotel
where, to my surprise, Blue Bunny ice cream products were on the menu! I
excitedly told my family about Blue Bunny ice cream, and how one of my
"Access newsgroup people" was connected to that company, and about how my
"Access newsgroup friends" talked about how good it was. Their responses
varied from polite, but feigned interest to openly sarcastic eye-rolling. I
was warned that these people could be axe-murderers for all I knew, and that
I shouldn't be fooled by their on-line personas...

Anyway, the menu was wrong. And I've still never had the chance to try Blue
Bunny ice cream... <sigh> Maybe this summer...

Best wishes!
Fred

Sadly, the menu was merely

Your form/subform isn't setup properly. I got confused on some of the table
descriptions but can let them pass for the moment.

The big rotten clue is that you had to go ENTER a ParentID. That ParentID
should not be visible once you are done troubleshooting. If you are using
it in your user interface, find another way.

When it's working properly, you'll use the main form to navigate to the
parent record by name or go to a blank record to enter one. Navigating to
the parent record on the main form should cause any related child records to
appear in the child form.

Is your child form present on your main form? If not, it should be. When
you created your subform on the main form, a subform control was created on
the main for. As Lynn has mentioned before, when you look at its properties
you should see ParentID in the Link Master Field and the Link Child Field.
If you don't, this turkey won't fly.

Try the above. If you aren't starting to get results then I offer to take a
look at it here. Just send a copy of everything you have. The most current
version of Access I have running at the moment is 97. I can load Office XP
without a hassle. I'll look it over, fiddle with the table design if
necessary and get the form/subform working for you.

It isn't hard to take the spam filter out of my address.

Believe it or not....I found the problem. Somehow the ChildTable_ID
autonumber got messed. I wiped everything and started fresh again (10th
time). I was more aware of what I was doing by this time too. The
duplication was coming from the autonumber which somehow had reset to 1
entering duplicate values in the primary key. Thank You Lynn especially and
Larry. Now I am on to the next step of the project (and probably more
questions). What a great forum.!!!

Blue Bunny for everyone

Congratulations!!!!!!!! I'm glad you got it working.

Blue Bunny rules!!!!!!!!!! ;-)

Well shucks, Fred. If you find yourself near a Super Walmart anywhere you
should be able to find some of our ice cream. And tell your family that we
have no axe murderers here at Blue Bunny... <g>

Of course he *says* that; it's company policy.
