Some of the mail I reeceive have boxes with little
red "x's" in the upper left hand corner. Has this to do
with a security setting and, if so, how do I correct for

More likely an overloaded Temporary Internet Files folder. In IE, go to
Tools>Internet options...>General tab. Click on the "Delete files" button.

In case the above fails to fix things and it IS a security block, in OE, go
to Tools>Options>Security tab. Unmark "Do not allow attachments to be saved
or opened..." Just remember to be cautious when opening attachments, even
from friends, as the attachment may be forwarded and could do harm.
