When I open Help and Suppont I get a Red X instead of an image. How do I fix
this problem?

I just wanted to send you an email to tell you thank you for your =
assistance with my recent problem with png entries in my Windows Vista =
registry. I contacted Microsoft directly and the tech was unable to =
assist me with the red X's in my Help and Support. As I was on the =
phone with him I researched the Windows Vista Community and found your =
replies regarding Red X's and followed your links and was able to =
download and run the png.reg file and that fixed my issue.

Best Regards,
bcsiz

I've been plagued with the same Red X problem in Help and Support since I
bought my computer with Windows Vista. Like you, I've been unable to get any
solution with two on line with HP techs. I was delighted to find your
solution, however, when I downloaded and applied the fix, the problem still
continued and my Red X remain. Any other ideas on this problem would be
appreciated. TIA. Jef

Did you go to http://winvista.mvps.org/Ficheros/PNG.reg and download and
install the file then restart your computer? I was missing the green arrows
next to the links in Help and Support. When I went into regedit and
HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT I had no png entry. Downloading and installing the file
added the png in the list of files and then the green arrows were there
instead of the red X's.

bcsiz, I tried that solution of downloading the fix which merged into the
registry, and I still have the red X's. I looked into regedit, and .png has
two entries under HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT. Neither one are the one suggested. I'm
a bit uneasy about adding manually an extra line of
[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\.png]
"Content Type"="image/png". Thanks. Jef

jef, I'm with you about manually adding to the registry. I bought my vista
out right and completed a clean install of home prem on my laptop so I have
90-days with Microsoft instead of the OEM that you have. I have two entries
under HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT Default ... REG_SZ...(value not set) and Content
Type...REG_SZ...image/png. You can do it...if the Content Type isn't
image/png just double left click on Content Type and a Content Type window
opens...clear out what is there and type image/png then click OK. If the
Default isn't (Value not set)...double left click on Default and clear out
what is there and click OK. Let me know how it goes. bcsiz
