"Red X" instead of seeing jpg

I recently installed SBC Yahoo DSL. After this, when
going to websites with jpg's and jif's, instead of seeing
the picture on the web site, I instead have a "little red
x" and no picture.

I tried upgrading to IE6, I downloaded as many WIN98
upgrades that I could find and I tried going back to AOL
by installing AOL9.0.

After doing all this, I still only get the "little red x"
ehether I attempt to go to web sites using either IE,
Yahoo or AOL.

I've worked with the technical support grougs at both AOL
and Yahoo - neither of which has helped.
