The Help and Support window works through the browser.

Go to Control Panel/Internet Options/Advanced Tab. Scroll down to the
Multimedia section and make sure that the Show Pictures option is checked.

If this does not fix the problem, see the following websites for other
possible fixes.

I can't see JPG's or GIFS any more - red x - images missing

Hi Austin,

In addition, let us know which page in the Help Center that is causing this behavior?

"Setting up a more secure home and small office network" When I click on
"illustration" the window that opens (Illustration: Ehternet Network with
external DSL.........) only has a red x in the upper left hand corner. I
accessed the same page on my laptop that has Windows XP Pro and the image is
displayed. I checked all the "Internet options. e.g., Security, Privacy and
advanced tabs and they all seem to match.

Hi Austin,

This may not be caused by security setting. Try clearing the Temporary Internet cache.

1. Start Internet Explorer
2. On the Tools menu, click Internet Options.
3. Click the General tab.
4. Under Temporary Internet files, click Delete Files.
5. When you are prompted to delete all temporary Internet files, click OK.

If that does not help, visit the links provided by Ronnie Vernon. FYI: Even Zone Alarm with Ad-block set as "High", does not block the illustration picture.

Hello,
I have the same problem with red x. I have ran super antispy ware and
cleaned everthing up. I made sure there was no lockdown, show pictures is
checked, can't download flashplayer or McAfee anti virus. No info bar.
Downloaded active x control pad, downloaded latest java jsp. I still get red
x and can't download virus scan or flashplayer. I also disabled pop blockers.
HELP PLEASE. Barb

Hi,
Other possibilities...
Disable, as a test, all third-party security, privacy, ad-blocking programs.
One of them may be causing this.

Turn on the windows Firewall (Control Panel> Windows Firewall) and disable
(as a test) your third-party firewall (if you're running one.)

The McAfee Privacy Service has been causing problems. Disable it.

See if there's anything else to try at:

Hope this helps,

Did you mention Help and Support when you posted before? In that thread, I
thought you were having problems with pictures in the browser.

Another thing to try:
Internet Options> Advanced: In multimedia section, check the box to show
pictures. Click OK. Close all browser windows and Help and Support if it
was open. Then open Help and Support to see if pictures are still missing.

If still no luck, take a look at this article:
"Pictures do not appear as expected, or you receive an error message when
you open an HTML file on a Windows XP Service Pack 2-based computer"
