Red X instead of graphic

Why am I getting a Red X instead of a graphic on so many web sites? I am
running Windows XP Home and SP2. Internet Explorer 6.0

Click in internet explorer, tools, internet options, go to advanced,
scroll down to multimedia and see if "show pictures" is checked. It
should, or pictures won't be displayed.
