RED X in Chart

Roger

I've used "Insert Chart" within PowerPoint and created a chart which I've
then animated by element in series. I re-open the presentation and the charts
are just showing a large red X, if I edit the chart it reappears, but only
until I close the presentation; re-open it again and it reappears?

Hi Roger,

A red X is PowerPoint's way of saying "I can't find the thing", I'm told
like a bloke who can't find the Vegemite, even though it is under his nose.
Anyway, first some general stuff about images.........

RED X instead of graphics

The best place to start is make sure you have all the latest Service Packs
installed. What version of PowerPoint do you have?

It could be that you don't have write access to the "Temporary Internet Files"
folder defined in your Windows registry. PowerPoint caches the images of
chart objects in-there (in a hidden subfolder to be a bit more specific).

Open the Windows registry (using regedit), go to
"HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\User
Shell Folders" and check the "Cache" value. You might want to set it to
something like "%USERPROFILE%\Local Settings\Temporary Internet Files" as
you certainly can write into your own profile folder.
