Red Alert - Symantec Leaves Customers Exposed

I noticed last Friday (2-20), that NAV announced a few new viruses. And
also mentioned that they would be updated on Monday. (You see, they don't
work on weekends. And I can also safely assume that they are in a hurry to
get out the door on Fridays. )

That is when I decided to investigate new antivirus programs. I even sent
NAV an email that has gone unanswered as of yet.

Their intelligent updates can be downloaded M-F at the end of the business
day. And I feel compelled to get them everyday. But what about my
teenagers computer? Yikes!!!! I had to shut down her network access to my
computer since she won't update every day.

Look at the free version of AVAST. Updates continuously while you are on
the net. Updates seem frequent. Have had some pop up on the weekend. Talks
to you and tells you when a new update has been loaded (you can turn off
the voice).

I like it. Have never had good luck with NAV, and the latest from McAfee
seems to be going down hill fast.

Thanx, will give it a try. Trying out NOD32 off and on right now. May also
try Kaspersky.

Perhaps you may know the answer to this. If I have NAV and Kaspersky or NAV
and Advast on my computer at the same time, will there be any problems?
(This is for trial purposes. And of course I will only have one enabled at
a time.)

The Trend online scan trashed my NAV installation months ago. And I had to
reinstall NAV. I was desperate for a second opinion since I had suspicious
files on my computer. (Compliments of my teenager and that AIM webpage
link. And yes she did this on my computer-not hers. Grrrr...)

And guess what? NAV only detected 1/2 of the viruses. TDS-3 confirmed my
suspicions about the remaining files. (NAV finally came out with the
definitions for the remaining bugs a few weeks later! TSK... TSK... )
Most of my daughters school-mates ended up with reformatted computers due to
NAV missing the boat.

I fear when my teenager leaves for college with her computer. It may not
come out alive. ;)

I've occasionally gotten Live Updates from them on weekends.
