The other day I saw the messages below:

The Recycle Bin on H:\ is corrupt. Do you want to empty the recycle bin for
this drive?

The Recycle Bin on I:\ is corrupt. Do you want to empty the recycle bin for
this drive?

How does one remove the corruption?

The Recycle Bin(s) have dedicated sub-folders. One for each user who
has logged onto the machine. They are named to match the SID (Security
Identifier) for the user. When a Bin becomes corrupted it usually needs
to have one ore more of the user sub-folders replaced or emptied.

There is only one user. Where are the sub-folders located?

Use Windows Explorer and double-click Recycler. If your Explorer
views include System/Hidden and all extensions you should see your
SID folder. If using XP Home you may have problems with ACL
Rights and would have to boot Safe Mode and add your username
to the ACL for the Recycler and grant yourself Full privileges. Once
that is done you should be able to navigate into Recycler.

If you don't need any files in the Bin, rt. click rec.Bin>choose
properties>click Configure Drives Independently>Go to each drive that's
corrupt; check "Do Not Move Files to the Recycle Bin">[I don't think you have
to reboot here, but it won't hurt to.] Open My Computer>choose each drive,
and Delete the Recycler Folder [the corrupt drives]. Reboot. Go back to
Rec.Bin>Prop's> Chk. the "Use One Setting For All Drives" option. If the
corruption is [Your Username], it may fix this.
