Recycle bin problem.

B

Bob Havens

Sometimes when I empty the Recycle bin by R clicking and selecting

"Empty Recycle Bin" I repeat the process and get a window asking if

I want to delete "Windows". If I check yes I get another warning that

tells me it can not read the disk. If I click "No" nothing happens but

the option "Empty Recycle Bin" is still highlighted when I R click the

RC bin. This indicates that there is still something in the RC Bin. If I

reboot, the problem usually goes away, at least for a while. This

problem only happens from time to time. I am using CCleaner but

don't know if this has anything to do with it. I also have CCleaner

set to empty the RC Bin. Any suggestions?
I am using Win. XP Home
Thank you,
Bob

First check your PC for malware with Antivirus and Antispyware tools
or here:

http://www.pandasoftware.com/products/activescan/com/activescan_principal.htm

and/or here:

http://www.kaspersky.com/virusscanner

Then, try System Restore that should help
(System Restore is only available in Windows XP and ME,but because you're
posing in XP newsgroup,I think you have XP).

Start-Programs-Accessories-System Tools-System restore

<<More info about Sys Restore in XP Help and Support center
Start - Help and Support >>
Restore your Computer
to a state a week before the problem started.

And a tip ! The program you mentioned, CCleaner ,remove it.
I have never heard of it but nobody (and including you) needs it.Remove
the content of Recycle bin manually or even turn the Recycle bin function off
if you wish.

[[Are you sure you want to delete WINDOWS?]]

Makes you stop and think when you see that message, doesn't it? ;-)

You probably have a damaged/corrupted file in the Recycle Bin.

Run Error Checking | Reboot | Try to empty the Recycle Bin again.

1. In My Computer or Windows Explorer, right-click the volume you want to
check, and then click Properties.
2. On the Tools tab, click Check Now.
3. Do one of the following:

o To run Chkdsk by using the /f parameter, select the Automatically fix file
system errors check box, and then click Start.
[[Specifies whether Windows repairs file-system errors found during disk
checking. All files must be closed for this program to run. If the drive is
currently in use, a message asks if you want to reschedule
the disk checking for the next time you restart your computer. Your drive is
not available to run other tasks while the disk is being checked.]]

o To run Chkdsk by using the /r parameter, select the Scan for and attempt
recovery of bad sectors check box, and then click Start.
[[Specifies whether Windows repairs file-system errors found during disk
checking, locates bad sectors, and recovers readable information. All files
must be closed for this program to run. If the drive is currently in use, a
message asks if you want to reschedule the disk checking for the next time
you restart your computer. Your drive is not available to run other tasks
while the disk is being checked. If you select this option, you do not need
to select Automatically fix file system errors. Windows fixes any errors on
the disk.]]

You have to reboot for Error-checking to run.

For a peek at the log.

WINDOWS is not really in the Recycle Bin. That is just what the message
refers to.
