'Recycle Bin' problem

S

SHRED

I have never seen this one before.

The Recycle Bin always asks this when I go to empty:

"Are you sure you want to delete these 42 items?"

I can put items in and try to "Explore" but nothing is showing.
When I go to 'Empty Recycle Bin' I get the above message no matter how
many times I try to 'Empty'. Always '42 items'.

Using Win2000pro fully updated.

Any ideas?

Try the Notepad trick first, if it doesn't work you may need to reset
the recycle bin. For the Notepad trick just create an empty Notepad
file then send it to the Recycle Bin then empty the RB. If that doesn't
work doing a simple Disk Cleanup on the drive may fix it.

You can always delete the RECYCLER folder seen using Windows Explorer of C drive with hidden files and folders made viewable and then reboot. The RECYCLER folder is remade after the next boot and that will get rid of those files which are in your damaged data folder in your SID Recycle Bin.

I have "Show hidden files and folders" checked already and see no
Recycler folder in C drive. Reboot doesn't help.

The Recycler folder has the System attribute. Do you have "Hide protected
operating system files" checked? If so, that's why you can't see
Recycler.

Here's an approach that works regardless of attributes:

Open a command prompt window: Start > Run, type "cmd".
If the window opens in a directory other than the root, type "cd \" and
press enter.
To see the folder, type "Dir /a r*" and press Enter.
To delete the folder, type "rd /s Recycler" and press Enter.
You should get "Recycler, Are you sure (Y/N)?".
Type "y", press Enter, and the folder and all of its contents are gone.
Windows will build a new folder the next time you delete a file to the
recycle bin or if you double-click on the Recycle Bin icon on the desktop.
