Recycle bin on Partitions

Bill

Hi,
I have connected WD usb 2.0 hdd to xp system. Setup 4 partitions and
everything went well ---except now I have a recycle bin in each
partition.Anything I add to my recycle bin on my desktop is also added to
the recycle bins in the other partitions, and when things are deleted on
the other partitions they show up in my recycle bin on desktop.I have the
partitions set up for my
wife and kids, and I don't want to delete their stuff in the recycle bin or
vice versa.

I changed recycle properties to configure drives
independently, but it hasn't changed the outcome. I can delete something on
desktop and even restore it back to desktop from another partition. Is there
a
way for each partition to have own recycle bin? Thanx for any help.

You can only empty your own files. Each partition does have it's own bin. But you see an amalagated view of your deletions.

Hi David,
Thanx for your help. The partitions (NTFS)are setup for my wife and kids
to use. If any of them empty their recycle bin, all recycle bins are emptied
including mine on the C: drive. If they send something to recycle bin , it
shows up in all bins also. Is this the way it's supposed to work? If so, is
there anyway to chang this? I've already changed the settings(indendently)
in properties and nothing has changed, even after rebooting and changing
back and forth.
Thanx
again,
Bill

I didn't think it worked that way, but that's exactly what is happening. No
matter what partition is involved ,sending to or emptying the recycle bin,
it does it to them all.

It doesn't work that way. You don't delete the other user's files.

All what. All users. It's not supposed to. Partitions you don't need to worry about.

David,
I'm the only user.Yes to the all the partitions. I have my C: drive as one
primary, then a usb 2.0 drive with 4 partitions. Whatever I put into desktop
recycle bin also goes in the other 4 partitions recycle bins. I can then go
into anyother partition and I can do the same. I can empty the recycle bin
from any partition and all are also emptied. I'm not sure if this is the way
it's supposed to work. It doesn't seem so.

Each partition has its own Recycler folder; each Recycler
folder has subfolders for each user account. The Recycle
Bin explores all the Recycler subfolders at once - for a
given account.

From the sound of things, you, your wife, and your kids
are all signing on as the same user (or you don't have
users enabled at all). If you want your various Recycle
Bins isolated from each other, you must create separate
user accounts for you, your wife, and each child.
