Recurring Threat

I have an XP Home SP2 PC that has a spy/ad program I
cannot remove with MS, Ad-Aware or SpyBot. The MO is that
it changes the home and search pages to sp.html where a
script based page of links is displayed. I cannot see the
script, the editor is disabled. It was identified by one
of the programs as the dreaded CoolWebSearch. Any
suggestions other than a wipe - n - load ?

Seems to have gotten it - afraid to celebrate yet, but
the safe mode scan appears to have worked - thanks!

Thanks for posting back--we make that recommendation pretty regularly, but
don't get much feedback about the result, generally.

No--but there is a post here from PYPC Dream, I think, which gives a
sequence of boots and scans that he says will do the job.

Haven't spotted it in a quick search, I'm afraid. There are also posts from
Steve Wechsler giving alternative forum locations where the experts are
working with a newly developed tool and sequence of operations that has been
successful against a newer variant of Vx2.

And I am mistaken about what I read.

There is such a post about removing About, Blank--but not about Vx2.
