It started when my headset didn't work, so I thought that I would re-install
xp home ed, but halfway thru the installation it said that a particular file
was missing and crashed. no matter what i tried it kept restarting, getting
to the same place and crashing again. so i installed xp prof to another file,
which i named windows1. I am transferring most files to the xp prof but some
will not come across and when i have finished, presuming that it is possible
to do all this, which has taken me two whole days continually at the
computer, how do i then get rid of the home ed. when i start my puter it
gives me 2 options either to go to home or professional edition. i am at my
wits end.

Do you have more than one HDD?
Are both XP and Home on same HHD?
Are both on same HHD and partition?

No i just have one hard drive (80gig), yes both home and prof r on the same
hhd. no partition, just made a file called windows1, so they are both on c
drive. i can see all my files. but can't run some of them eg NAV as there is
an error. i presume there is conflicts because programs are loaded on the
same drive twice as well as sys/exec files dunno, how do i get rid of the
home ed from the start up screen. i tried the F8 and F10 but they just tell
me to hit the r for repair, but that doesn't work and tells me to see me
systems administrator

Should be able to Delete Windows folder (with XP Home, only this folder).
Edit Boot.ini file to remove "XP home". Make sure line says XP Home!!!
Maybe make backup of boot.ini first. Different ways to edit boot.ini.
Easiest probasbly to use Start>Run>Msconfig
Boot.ini tab, Check all boot paths.
This edit won't work until you have deleted XP Home directory.
Reload application Sofware in same default directory (while running XP Pro)
to establish connections.

i have a slight problem. i deleted the windows1 folder, before seeking
advice, because i transferred most of the files to the desktop and installed
them again to that one. i am not sure now which is home and which is prof.
Anyway i went to the System Config and to boot.ini and do i delete the line
that says:

multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition1\WINDOWS1=Microsoft XP Home Edition"
noexecute=optin /fastdetect

is that what you are saying that i do. if so then do i reboot. Also it has a
button that says, check all boot paths, what happens if i do this?

Your really starting to confuse me. You put XP Pro in Windows(1) but now you
deleted it. So you don't have XP Pro now!

STOP!!!

While using MSconfig, you can't delete a line!!

What does boot.ini display? PLease POST!!

Please STOP until you post Boot.ini

Now, since you deleted Windows(1) folder, it should display that XP Pro is
invalid and suggest you delete.

Yes I am sorry to confuse you, but I have been wrestling with my puter for 2
solid days now, that means about 8 hours each day, so i'm pretty tired, and
i'm also confused. Ok yes, i did delete windows1 which was the file that I
loaded XP pro onto, but when I booted up, after deleting windows1 it still
had the two options at the start to go to either pro or home edition. so i
went to pro. and most of my stuff is there, except my email address (outlook
express), although i'm sure they should be there somewhere. I can't explain
it. Ok I went to run typed in 'Msconfig Boot.ini' and a box came up that said
System Configuration Utility. Then i went to the BOOT.INI tab and i'll type
word for word what it says there:

[boot loader]
timeout=30
default=multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS
[operating systems]
multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition1\WINDOWS="Microsoft XP Professional"
noexecute=optin /fastdetect
multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition1\WINDOWS1=Microsoft XP Home Edition"
noexecute=optin /fastdetect

The last two entries are on a line each, but because of wordwrap I couldn't
fit it on one line! But it looks like home was on windows1 and pro on
windows... is that right. so i must in my tired state have said it wrong. i
am very sorry. but if i have done it wrong please let me know.
Thanks so much for your advice for such a dummy. I REALLY appreciate it
heaps. cheers Heather

Well I don't know how you did this but anyway.
It looks like WindowsXP Home is in"Windows1' (not XP Pro)
Read the descriptions. I guess Ishould have seen earlier with one line post
of Boot.ini..So you have actually deleted "XP Home" as desired!!

So that is how you are getting into XP Pro!! I was confused on that.

From all you have given me, I would say that if you try right now at this
point before proceeding , you should not be able to boot to WIN XP Home!!

Now: If you preform "Check all boot paths", it should say WIN XP Home" is an
Invalid Path. Do you want to remove?? I would say "Yes". If it doesn't say
XP home is invalid then you have confused me again. I don't think so.

Once delete/remove entry in boot.ini your computer should be they you
desired. Only boot up and should go strait to Wix XP Pro. Dual boot option
should be gone!!

As far as mail program, just recreate your mail account!!

You problem isn't that complex to re- install Windows!!
When it asked you to remove entry for "WIN XP HOME", you said "YES"?
That is what was requested, right?
You selected okay to close window. Then prompted to restart.
Once reboot, have to rset msconfig to "Nor

You should have to reboot, and then reset to normal startup!

Walk thru it one more time. I am going to try to do on mine.
I should be back by time you get this and respond.

Heather,

Go into your Control Panel and select System Properties, then the Advance
Tab, then Startup and Recovery Settings, click the edit button. Now you can
remove this line:

multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition1\WINDOWS1=Microsoft XP Home Edition"
noexecute=optin /fastdetect

The MS Configuration tool is for only troubleshooting problems. When you let
msconfig fix your Boot Path, you will always get the prompt that you used
the Configuration Tool. If you select Normal boot after using Check all Boot
paths in msconfig, then your boot.ini file will revert back to the dual boot
up.

which i named windows1. I am transferring most files to the
xp prof but some
will not come across and when i have finished, presuming
that it is possible
to do all this, which has taken me two whole days

start my puter it
gives me 2 options either to go to home or professional

As long as "WIN XP HOME" was identified as "Invalid Path", you can follow

As far as mail program, just recreate your mail account!!

i have a slight problem. i deleted the windows1 folder, before seeking

them again to that one. i am not sure now which is home and which is prof.
Anyway i went to the System Config and to boot.ini and do i delete the line
that says:

multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition1\WINDOWS1=Microsoft XP Home Edition"
noexecute=optin /fastdetect

is that what you are saying that i do. if so then do i reboot. Also it has a

Heather,

Go into your Control Panel and select System Properties, then the Advance
Tab, then Startup and Recovery Settings, click the edit button. Now you can
remove this line:

multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition1\WINDOWS1=Microsoft XP Home Edition"
noexecute=optin /fastdetect

The MS Configuration tool is for only troubleshooting problems. When you let
msconfig fix your Boot Path, you will always get the prompt that you used
the Configuration Tool. If you select Normal boot after using Check all Boot
paths in msconfig, then your boot.ini file will revert back to the dual boot
up.

I don't know what JRE is!!!
You will probaly have to reinstall most programs so XP Pro makes a link to
them.
If you accept default install locations, it's only write over existing
files. Shouldn't cause problem.

I am transferring most files to the xp prof but some
will not come across and when i have finished, presuming that it is possible
to do all this, which has taken me two whole days continually at the
computer, how do i then get rid of the home ed. when i start my puter it
gives me 2 options either to go to home or professional edition. i am at my
wits end.

Install the programs, these programs were probably installed on XP Home.
Verify if Java is installed from here, http://www.java.com/en/. If there is
no java, then install it.

Heather,

Go into your Control Panel and select System Properties, then the Advance
Tab, then Startup and Recovery Settings, click the edit button. Now you
can
remove this line:

multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition1\WINDOWS1=Microsoft XP Home Edition"
noexecute=optin /fastdetect

The MS Configuration tool is for only troubleshooting problems. When you
let
msconfig fix your Boot Path, you will always get the prompt that you used
the Configuration Tool. If you select Normal boot after using Check all
Boot
paths in msconfig, then your boot.ini file will revert back to the dual
boot
up.

couldn't
fit it on one line! But it looks like home was on windows1 and
pro
on
windows... is that right. so i must in my tired state have said
it
wrong. i
am very sorry. but if i have done it wrong please let me know.
Thanks so much for your advice for such a dummy. I REALLY
appreciate it
heaps. cheers Heather

:

Your really starting to confuse me. You put XP Pro in
Windows(1)
but now you
deleted it. So you don't have XP Pro now!

STOP!!!

While using MSconfig, you can't delete a line!!

What does boot.ini display? PLease POST!!

Please STOP until you post Boot.ini

For further refernce ONLY. Do not perfrom yet!!
"If you Use the button that says, check all boot paths, what
happens if i do
this?"
Now, since you deleted Windows(1) folder, it should display
that
XP Pro is
invalid and suggest you delete.

from info yo gave me, if correct, you have deleted XP Pro

It

i have a slight problem. i deleted the windows1 folder, before
seeking
advice, because i transferred most of the files to the
desktop
and installed
them again to that one. i am not sure now which is home and
which is prof.
Anyway i went to the System Config and to boot.ini and do i
delete the line
that says:

multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition1\WINDOWS1=Microsoft XP Home
Edition"
noexecute=optin /fastdetect

is that what you are saying that i do. if so then do i
reboot.
Also it has a
button that says, check all boot paths, what happens if i do
this?

Should be able to Delete Windows folder (with XP Home,
only
this folder).
Edit Boot.ini file to remove "XP home". Make sure line
says
XP Home!!!
Maybe make backup of boot.ini first. Different ways to
edit
boot.ini.
Easiest probasbly to use Start>Run>Msconfig
Boot.ini tab, Check all boot paths.
This edit won't work until you have deleted XP Home
directory.
Reload application Sofware in same default directory
(while
running XP Pro)
to establish connections.

No i just have one hard drive (80gig), yes both home and
prof r on the same
hhd. no partition, just made a file called windows1, so
they are both on c
drive. i can see all my files. but can't run some of
them
eg NAV as there is
an error. i presume there is conflicts because programs
are
loaded on the
same drive twice as well as sys/exec files dunno, how do
i
get rid of the
home ed from the start up screen. i tried the F8 and F10
but they just tell
me to hit the r for repair, but that doesn't work and
tells
me to see me
systems administrator

:

Do you have more than one HDD?
Are both XP and Home on same HHD?
Are both on same HHD and partition?

It started when my headset didn't work, so I thought
that I would re-install
xp home ed, but halfway thru the installation it
said
that a particular file
was missing and crashed. no matter what i tried it
kept
restarting, getting
to the same place and crashing again. so i installed
xp
prof to another file,
which i named windows1. I am transferring most files
to
the xp prof but some
will not come across and when i have finished,
presuming that it is possible
to do all this, which has taken me two whole days
continually at the
computer, how do i then get rid of the home ed. when
i
start my puter it
gives me 2 options either to go to home or
professional
edition. i am at my
wits end.
