I cannot find my recovery console disk. Is there any other
way to find my log in password not reset it but to locate
it? I need my recovery console disk so I can get to the
setup act.log file. Does anyone know where I can find one
to download or what I need to do. I really don't want to
reset password and lose all my settings etc..... help

This is on my HP pavillion NOTEBOOK. Windows XP has a log
in screen to use my notebook but I forgot my password or
it was somehow changed. I know I can find my password with
the recovery console disc but I have misplaced it as well.
I was wondering if anyone knew if I can back door into it
and get into my setup act.log file which holds all the
passwords and will show you all passwords. Thanks for any
help. Gary

No, you can't find your password with the Recovery Console disk, as you need the Adminstrator password to get into Recovery Console.

For XP Pro: If you know the password for the built in Administrator account, press CTRL-ALT-DEL twice at the Welcome Screen, with no other users logged on, and you'll get the older Win2K style logon. Enter Administrator and any password that you set for the Administrator account at setup.

For XP Home: Boot the computer into Safe Mode, and the built in Administrator account will appear on the Welcome Screen.
