Recovery console help

I set the recovery console to start when windows XP starts. That works, now
how do I get it to do a repair. The console runs, it asks for the
administrators password, is there one or just hit enter?
Then it lists this 1: C:\windows
it asks for which wWindows installation would I like to log onto? What do I
reply, I type the number 1 but it does nothing, if I type 1 and hit enter
then itjust goes to c:\windows. How do I do a repair?
How do I remove the dual boot?

You don't do a repair from the Recovery Console. The first time you're offered the Repair (R) option, skip it and go one with the install. You'll be given the option again to Repair the existing installation. Choose the R option there.
