Recovering or even getting access to old files on another drive

I recently installed a new hard drive in my PC. The new drive is now the C:
drive and my existing previous drive is the F: drive. My new drive works
well with all the software installed on it. I was trying to access files
under 'Documents and Setting' under my name in my old hard drive, now the F:
drive, through Windows Explorer but as soon as I click my name subdirectory
on the F: drive an error window pops up with the verbiage:

F:\Documents and Settings\my name is not accessible

Access is denied.

I can; however, access other files in other subdirectories on this F: drive.
The WinXP that I had setup for both the current C: drive and former C: drive
(now the F: drive) requires a password to login would that have anything to
do with this problem? But the error message appears right away as soon as I
click my name subdirectory on the F: drive and does not even ask me for a
password.

You need to disable Simple File Sharing and take ownership of
the files. Take a look at these articles for more info:

Note: If you are running Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition, you
must start the computer in safe mode, and then log on with an
account that has Administrative rights to have access to the
Security tab. To start in Safe Mode, reboot your computer and
start tapping the F8 key as soon as you see anything displayed
on the screen. Keep hitting F8 until the Advanced Startup
Options menu appears. Use the up and down arrow keys on your
keyboard to select Safe Mode. Hit Enter.

Good luck
