My main hard drive developed problems and I created a
new main hard drive. I'd like to try to get the old HDD running.
It has XP-Home edition but I'm having trouble booting it.
I have the 6-floppy Setup Set, but at the end it asks for the
XP Home CD and it doesn't seem to recognize it. Maybe
my XP CD has gone bad in some way. Any advice?

It is unclear what you are trying to do. You cannot "create" a hard
drive - you have to go to the store and buy one. The best thing for you
to do would be to take the machine to a local shop and explain to them
what you want. They can test the old hard drive for you and also check
your XP CD (which I doubt is bad).

Sorry I used an unclear term, EB. I 'created' a new main HDD
by taking a new HD and formatting it and installing XP on it.
Since posting the query, I have, with expert assistance, done
everything any expert available to me suggested. I've run the unbootable
drive as a slave and can not access anything on it. I have tried
using the right XP Setup disks to 'prepare' it and it only gives the
one alternative: format it anew. So I gave up, reformatted it, and
shipped it back to the OEM in exchange for a new one.

The possibility exists that an expert 'bit-picker' might have had a
way to find what was wrong and either fix it or work around it,
but I gave up.
