recover program listings

I had to do a new re-install of xp pro. I would like to
get all of my installed program listings and desktop
items back. The virus screwed up my system so bad I had
to re-install. Any help would be great.

If you did a clean install (reformat the hard drive) of XP then you need
to find all of the discs that came with your programs and reinstall
them.

Please define what a 'new re-install of xp pro' means?
