Hi,

I had to reinstall XP on my C: because of a virus.

I also have another hard drive on my system (it used to
be the E:).

My important things were on both drives.

I reinstall XP and my data on the E: (which is now D:)
are no longer enable.

I used a shareware and saw that the data are still on my
D:. How can I recover them without buying a $350 software?

Thanks.

Unfortunatly, it cannot recover the whole drive which is
in NTFS.

Thanks even though!

Hi. Guess I missunderstood your question first time round. Sorry.

If your C: is not formatted using NTFS then that might explain why you can't
access your data, since you can't generally speaking read ntfs formatted
disks from FAT or FAT32 ones as far as I'm aware (although I think you can
get hold of utilities like NTFSDOS which can).
You need to format your c: using NTFS i think. I've not done it myself but
you may be able to convert your c: to NTFS format by using the "convert"
command (type convert /? at a command prompt for more details) eg typing
this at a comand prompt

convert c: /fs:ntfs

And then following the prompts to schedule the conversion for when your
computer restarts.
But I'm no expert, so get a bit more advice perhaps first.

You may need to be logged on with admin status, then go to the drive,
r-click on it and in Properties, Security page, click Advanced and on
the Owner page give your regular logon ownership - making sure that you
check the box 'replace ownership on sub-containers etc'
