Reconnection to LA?N after sleep

I am connecting from my computer to the internet, and other computers in the
house using a broadband modem router (SafeCom SMAMRU-54108 wireless router).
I am connecting to it with a LAN cable (not wireless).
My computer is a new Dell PC, running Windows Vista. The other PCs run XP.
If I turn on the router, and then my Dell PC, I get a network-related
message saying “Unidentified network†with the comment that “this computer
has limited or no connectivityâ€, and no connection to the internet.
If I turn on the PC first, and then turn on the router, all works fine, with
connection to the internet and other PCs – until the PC goes to sleep. When
it wakes up again, I am back in the bad situation, and have to go to the
modem/router switch (in a different room), and turn the modem off and on
again, to get all working again.
I am using Norton Internet security. I turned it all off, and it mad no
difference.
Can you advise how to avoid this connection problem.

Change the power option on the NIC to not allow the computer to
turn it off to save power.

In Device Manager, right-click the NIC entry, click Properties then
click the Power Management tab. Uncheck Allow the Computer to
turn off this device to save power.

Tom, thanks for your advice.
But unfortunately I tried this. It did not solve the problem. After
removing the check box for power saving in the NIC properties, and then
putting the computer to sleep. When it work up there was still the problem
of "unidentified network" (public) instead of the "network" (private). But
also then switching the router off and on now no longer solved the problem.
With thanks
John

John Ch,

I'm sorry you're experiencing trouble. Go to the website of the router mfr
and install any firmware updates. Post back with your results, please.

I am no longer having the problem :)
Problem seems to have been solved by changing power settings:
from Control Panel, going to: system and maintenance / Power options /
change what power buttons do
I turned off automatic sleep, and It came up with a request (with background
dimmed) to “change power options control panelâ€.
Since then it has reconnected to the LAN fine after sleep. I have even
changed back on the sleep function, and it is still OK.
Thanks for your help.
