Hi all
I have, over the past few years, been developing a datase for a client
in MS Access. The time is now approaching, however, when we will be
looking to migrate it to SQL Server, with an MS Access front end.
As this is not an area in which I have much experience, I am looking
to work with a third-party company who can help with this project by
providing oversight / knowledge / experience / tools / suggestions /
help. I am looking to do much of the work myself, along with such a
company so that (a) I can gain knowledge and experience from the
process, and (b) I am able to provide support to my client on the
migrated system.
As it stands, the database has around 130 tables, and (when compacted)
around 400mb of data. There are around 20 users, of whom about 10 use
it on a fairly constant basis. There is a fairly significant (c 30000
lines) of code, which is properly commented. The database as it stands
is normalised and functions well, but is showing signs of creaking at
the seams and needs to be moved to a platform that supports backups,
isn't prone to corruption, and will allow for more growth.
My question is this - does anyone have any experience of working with
UK companies on such a project? I am looking for recommendations on
such companies. I already have a couple of companies in mind, and have
spoken to a couple of people, but want to get a feel for who's worth
contacting. My client is based in SW London, and I'm in Surrey, so if
companies are in that sort of area, that would be a bonus.
