Recommendation for family info organizer

I wonder if any of you have run across a (freeware) program that will
organize
family info into a book/phamplet/series of pages. I'm not sure what I"m
looking for, but a SIL thinks
I watch soap operas and eat bon-bons all day<g>. She called asking if I
would put together some info on the family if all family members sent me the
info(it's a very large, scattered family). It's mostly sort of like a family
tree but I don't want it in that format. They'll be sending me "their"
names, birthdays, kids' names, their birthdays, spouses names and birthdays,
marriage dates, etc. I'll need to put each individual family's info into
like a "block" of their own and tie them together. I know that sounds like a
family tree but I need to be able to print off what I come up with and make
a hopefully thin book out of it or at least staple the pages together. Since
I haven't done this before or seen it
before I don't really know what to ask for. Anyone have any suggestions?
Thanks.

Hi Debbie,

this could be a *lot* of work

First suggestion - tell your SIL to do it.
Second suggestion - get a new SIL.

if those suggestions aren't workable . . . :)

Use a tree type program - Keynote or Treepad - to organize the
information. Siblings on top nodes (aka pages) with their spouses,
marriage dates etc., children on child nodes attached to the parent's
node with their spouses, children etc. That should work as long as you
are only tracking *one* tree. See:

You will probably want to make an index and copy and paste into a word
processing program to print.

I've downloaded the free version of GedHTree I found through your site. Will
check it out. Many thanks.
