recommend workhorse color laser printer

My wife is a Realtor and we are printing thousands of color brochures
and flyers. If anyone can recommend a workhorse color laser printer
please let me know. The most important criteria:

Very low cost per page (based on no-name toner cost from ebay)
workhorse reliability
very good print quality (does not have to be BEST QUALITY, but VERY
GOOD).

I don't mind getting a used older discontinued model if they are better
then all the stuff currently on the market! I still love the old 5SI
for their workhorse reliability!

I estimate printing about 3000 pages per month.

Just be sure when buying 'no-name cartridges' from eBay (or anywhere)
that
· The toner is full, not half or three quarters empty.
· The toner is quality (if the toner is rubbish it will just increase
wear on drum, transfer belt, fuser etc, negating any cost savings)
· the supplier will guarantee that the toner will not harm the
printer. Of course, that guarantee is only as good as the person giving
it, so check out the supplier carefully.
· you can get colours which closely match those of the original toner
(and this is especially important as you are using the machine to
promote expensive items! i.e. houses)

Do some research to figure out if having the stuff printed commercially
would be more cost effective. Definitely use google and ebay as well as
watching for sales (also chk mfg's websites) before you buy anything.

Have you considered getting one on a contract basis? Lots of agents
here seem to have machines based on the Ricoh Aficio 3800c (which you
may also find as a Savin/Lanier/Nashuatec/Infotec/Gestetner/Rex Rotary I
think thats all of them!) The current model is (I believe) the CL7300.
This is a 11"x17" machine. The smaller size is 4/5000 series.

I have an ebay purchased Canon CLC950 which is overkill really, but its
my photocopier and scanner as well and does produce better copies than
the Ricoh series mentioned above. One thing with big machines second
hand off ebay is that they may be a bit temperamental and you may have
some odd quirks, or you may get lucky with it, after all I have a 6/7
year old machine for about 5% of the brand new price!

Other options would be Kyocera who make decent machines with low running
costs, however you will be less likely to obtain non-standard toner.

Personally I think the larger size is worth going for as you can then
fold the 11x17 paper to provide a four page brochure that looks rather
better than stapled sheets.

If you were thinking of pumping thick card through the machine for some
brochures I believe some of the Xerox machines (Docucolor?) would serve
better.
