recognition of usb caddy

I have a usb caddy into which I have fitted a 1gb maxtor drive. I run xppro
and cannot get my PC to recognise it. The caddy was made by Grid Electronics
(no longer trading) so so help there. Can anyone advise on driver or in any
other way

You really have a 1 gig Maxtor drive in the caddy?
