Can anyone help me. When i send an attachment to some people, they recive the
attachment in word. However with other users the file appears as a
winmail.dat file. I have just sent myself an email to my hotmail account and
the same thing happens?

Make sure that your message format is not rich text. Use HTML or plain text instead.

Stop using Outlook Rich Text Format and use Plain Text instead.
Tools->options->mail format.
