Recent Used List is Grayed Out, what happened?

In word 2003 and excel, under options, where you normally can select the
number of last used documents to be viewed, it is "grayed out" and I cannot
see any documents. I have uninstalled all new software that I installed
after it was previously working, and did a "detect and repair" option from
the disk, and of course, rebooted, and it still did not let me change the
options.

If you used TweakUI or a registry hack to suppress the Recent Documents list
on the Start menu, the Office applications are responding to the same change
in the registry. You'll have to undo that change to get the lists back.
