Recent patch Q832894

Many of our users have updated Windows with this patch
released on Feb 2. Since then, folks who access our
PeopleSoft production system via browser are getting
intermittent "Internal Server" error messages. Nothing
has changed in our environment recently except these
client updates.

Has anyone experienced similar problems accessing web
sites? It appears that something is periodically being
passed to the web server that it doesn't understand and
we end up with "java.lang.NullPointerException" messages
in our web server jserv.log file. We are using Apache on
Solaris servers.

We've backed a few PCs out of this patch with some
success. I'm interested in what specifically might have
been in this patch to cause these errors.

Thanks.

Yep - I get a similar error, though mine is constant -
only fix so far is to uninstall the patch. Good luck
with your situation - I hope someone notices that this is
a problem.

"Before installing this 'fix' I can access a site I use
for work. After installing it, I can load the log-in
page, but any attempt to log in leaves me with a 'Page
cannot be displayed'.

Occurs on both XP and 2000 PC - same error on both.

If I uninstall the Fix, I can then access the site
normally, and log in without problem.""\

Yes, my companies ecommerce site is having problems with
users who have installed the patch as well. It would
appear that the patch is effecting the Microsoft VM with
regards to the execution of some javascript that is used
to read form data from another window. This is unsigned
javascript but does have the document.domain set and all
content is served with the same protocol (https). The
problem is inconsistent. When it does occur, the user has
probably done the same thing in our web site many times,
then out of the blue, script in one window will not
read/write script/form data in another window.

We are seeing a similar problem with forms occasionally failing to
POST. The problem occurs using a simple POST form (no javascript, no
URLs with user/password, etc). This error occurs sporadically.
Pressing the browser back button and resubmitting the form almost
always works (though I have seen it fail twice in a row). This problem
does not occur with an unpactched IE6 (that's the Feb 2, 2004 security
patch). The problem also does not occur using other browsers. We
have seen the problem occur with the patched IE client running on NT,
2000, and XP.

If you are seeing a similar problem please email me with a description
of your configuration.

Have you tried the update to the patch? ;-)
