Funnily enough, it's called "My recent Documents" in your User folder in
Documents and Settings.......

E.g.

C:\Documents and Settings\Administrator

Folder is hidden. Must Show Hidden Files option.

Hope this help, let us know!

That's what I thought but I found that if I put some files into that folder
they did not show up in the Documents list. That's why I posed the question.

Since your reply, I have discovered that the files actually opened have a
shortcut in the Recent folder, whereas the imported ones don't. So I
imported some with shortcuts but they don't show up either.

So either the file has to be actually opened for it to show in the list, or
there is another folder involved.

Do the "imported" files have a name of "Shortcut to......." because all the
others do not.

Actually, they may ALSO be stored there but are actually kept hidden in the
registry. If you wanted to find it, though, it would not be that hard.

If you just wanted to have a documents thing with an opener like the
Programs item on the start menu, follow these steps:

Right-click the Start button and select properties (third last item). Click
Customize. Click the Advanced tab, and scroll down the list to My Documents,
and choose Display as menu.

Doesn't work that way. True there are shortcuts in the folder, but there is
a supporting hash information in the registry that indicates what files
should be presented.

If you notice, not all entries in My Recent Documents are reflected when
selecting from Start Menu list.
That is why there is a special option from Start Menu | Properties in
handling the Recent Files List.

Changing My Documents to a cascading menu item on the Start Menu, does not
reflect recently opened documents. It will show only those files located at
C:\Documents and Settings\[USERNAME]\My Documents whether they have recently
been opened or not.

I know that, re-read my post. I said "if he wanted to" because he mentioned
something about adding a file to it... It may be why he was asking about it
in the first place, trying to figure out how he could go about making himself
a little "sub-menu" for documents of some sort........

I think the better solution could be creating a new personal folder in Start
Menu. Then put all of your documents inside it that you want to be appear in
Start Menu.

Hope this help, let us know!

Thanks for your help everyone. The cure is going to be worse than the
disease, in my case!
