I have Recent Documents set to display 20 documents, but it seems to
automatically clear itself when I turn off the PC, i.e. when I start work the
next day the list is empty.

How do I prevent this please?

Regards
Alan

Is this a company PC? If so, chances are that when you log out the registry
entries associated with your profile are wiped.
The list is stored in the registry at
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\12\Word\FileMRU.

Yes, it is a "company PC", but surely this is a configuration issue, not a
question of "who owns the hardware".

It is nothing to do with who *owns* the hardware but how it is set up. Many
corporate IT departments setup user log-ins to wipe personal settings when
the user logs out ... not something the average home user does. Check with
your IT support.

Thanks for assistance. Yep, there was a routine (CCLEAN) installed that was
doing a cleanup on system startup.

Problem solved.
