Recent document list disappears

Hello

One of the new "features" of Word 2007 seems to be that the list of recent
documents just disappears. Any idea about how to get this working like all
other previous MSW versions?

Thanks,

That is hardly a "feature" -- more likely a wrong configuration or interference
from outside Word.

Checking the obvious: Are you clicking the Office button to see the list? Have
you gone to Office button > Word Options > Advanced > Display and set the number
of recent documents to something larger than zero?

Proceeding to the less obvious, have you used a utility such as TweakUI to
suppress the documents list on the Windows Start menu? If so, that will also zap
Word's MRU list (http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=284896).

Yes, I have that checked. I wouldn't think that you would need TweakUI to
keep these from disappearing. I did see the earlier posts on that.
Thanks.

It isn't that you need TweakUI to keep the MRU list from disappearing. The issue
there is that people sometimes use TweakUI or a manual registry edit to prevent
the MRU list from appearing on the Start menu, and they don't realize that also
affects Office programs. As a just-in-case measure, you might look at the key
mentioned in the KB article,

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\Explorer

and if there is a value within that key named NoRecentDocsHistory and it's set
to 01 00 00 00, either delete that value or set it to binary 00 00 00 00.

If that isn't the cause of the problem, temporarily remove any add-ins from Word
(http://www.word.mvps.org/FAQs/Customization/CheckIfAddinsInstalled.htm) to see
if the MRU starts appearing. If so, restore the add-ins one at a time until you
find the one that blocks the list.
