I recently (a few days ago) did an anytime upgrade from Premium to Ultimate.
I have been running Home Premium without problems since January 30 this
year.
I recently had to reinstall my Vista Ultimate as this new (few days old)
install would no longer boot. I also couldn't fix it with any of the
supplied tools/methods.
I did a fresh install, then used the transfer wizard to restore files and
settings from my original 10 month old install which was still on my hard
drive and bootable.
I installed DreamScene and it worked.
I did an "ATI Technologies Inc. - Video - RADEON 9600 SERIES" update, an
Optional update, released in June, 2007 and all seemed well.
But I tried DreamScene again, and I got a black background screen.
When shutting down the computer, I would get a crash, a blue screen.
I installed the latest Catalyst ver. 7.11 drivers and all is well again.
I belief the optional update I mention above was also installed in the
failed version that I mention above.
I think my system became unstable after that and hence files got corrupted.
