Receiving undelivered mail that was not sent by me

Hi, I have recently begun to get bounce back and out of office reply messages
in my inbox. The problem is that I have not sent any mail to these
recipients and the from address is from my domain, but not a valid email
address. Is there some software compromising my email accounts?

It a virus that someone else has. Don't worry, nothing you can do and it
will eventually stop.

I have the same problem, and have notified my domain hosting ISP, which you
may want to do, too.

I'm afraid that the 'undeliverable' messages, may be just a fraction of a
spammer's mass mailing. I don't want my ISP to get the idea that I am the
spammer. So far, the number of messages seems to have reached a plateau.

In the past, when I had a similar problem, the ISP suggested that I set up
an account at Yahoo or elsewhere, and use that address as the referral
address for undeliverable mail sent with my domain name. In other words, if
a spammer sends an e-mail from a fake name at my domain, like
(e-mail address removed), and it bounces, the bounced message will go to the Yahoo
account. You can take a look at the Yahoo account from time to time to clear
out the garbage, check for wayward legitimate messages, and maybe send
yourself a message, just to keep the account in force.

Check with your domain host to see if this is a solution you can use.

Thanks Gordon, I suspected that there was some unwanted code causing this
problem. Do you know whatn virus is causing this? Is it only affecting my
outlook accounts? I'm interested in finding and rooting out this code.
Thanks,
Greg

Thanks orrie, I'll pursue your suggestion...good point to give my hoster a
heads up about the problem so that my domain doesn't get black listed...I
hadn't thought about that potential consequence.

You misunderstand. The problem is not on your computer but on someone
else's that someone has your address on their machine and hijackware on
their machine is using the addresses it finds on that machine as senders to
spew garbage.

Thanks, I did work out that it wasn't related to my desktop. I have email
addresses from 4 different domains configured in my Outlook and only 1 domain
is having the issue. Obviously someone has latched on t that domain for
spamming purposes....btw, the addresses being used aren't valid addresses.
The only reason I'm getting the bounce back mail is because I have a catchall
filter set for that domain.
