Receiving multiple desktop alerts for one email message

I am a Microsoft Outlook 2003 user with Microsoft XP. I recently started
receiving two desktop alerts for every email message I receive. Sometimes
when I click on the alert, it will open the email message. However, other
times, I will receive an error message stating "The operation failed.".

Does anybody have any ideas how to prevent the multiple alerts?

Have you made any changes recently? Might two Outlook accounts be reading
the same mailbox?

The only change that I am aware of is that our domain name changed and I am
able to receive emails from the old domain as well as the new one. Could
this be the reason?

If you have one account pointing to each, that could cause what you see.
