My colleague receives pdf files in access format when in fact, they are
acrobat files. Consequently, he is unable to open them unless he saves then
first. When he forwards them to me, I receive them in acrobat format and can
open no problem.

He has acrobat reader v7 and is running on Windows XP. This and all other
programmes on our computers are identical.

It sounds like the file association is not correct. If you have a PDF file
saved on the hard drive, you can right click on it and then choose Open
With. From the open with dialog box choose Adobe Reader 7.0 and then select
the check box at the bottom that says "Always use the selected program to
open this kind of file". Click OK.

Hope that helps.
