I would like to use the personal information from an excel worksheet to fill
in the blanks on a donation receipt (MS Template). Does anyone have any
experience in this kind of thing?

You may be able to use the Mail Merge feature in Word to print the data,
using Excel as the data source. There's information on the Word MVP site:
