My Windows 2000 Pro reboots periodically for no apparent
reason. There are is no warning and no error message;
usually, I've clicked on something and the machine
reboots. There are no viruses that NAV can detect. This
has been occurring for months. Can anyone help? Thanks

Chances are you have a hardware failure. RAM, CPU, cooling fan for CPU, etc....

Here are a few possible causes:
- Mains glitch
- Internal power supply cables not firmly in place
- Intermittent power supply
- Power supply overheating (perhaps the fan is stuck)
- CPU overheating (stuck fan)
- Rogue software (WinVNC can do this)

I have the exact same problem!

I think it is related to hardware. Have looked for errors
in the device manager, but there are non. If I start the
system information in program/accessories/system
tools/system information there is a IRQ list. In my
computer my videocard (ATI Fire gl 8800) is using the same
IRQ (16) as one of the USB controllers.

I disabled the USB-controller, but without any further
success.

I have had problems with the reboot when using internet
explorer and when I start to install a program. Have not
yet had any experience using the full capacity of the
computer, since I have no programs installed.

My system:
P4 2,8GHz@800MHz-bus
4x512Mb DDR3200@400MHz
ASUS motherboard (p4p800)
80Gb IBM deskstar

Best regards

Anton
