Reboot with disk check

My computer (laptop gateway 1400) just began to reboot and do a diskcheck
automatically, every hour or so. Is this a virus?
can anybody suggest a solution?
This has never occured before a few weeks ago.

The way to test for a virus is to use 2 different up to date anti-virus
programs.
