reboot disk

I just got a new Dell that uses Windows XP. Whenever I
got a computer before, there was always lots of info
about "reboot disks." On my last computer I had Norton
Anti-Virus that prompted me to make a new reboot disk
just about every other time I updated the virus
settings. With the new Dell, I have McAfee Anti-Virus
which does not have a reboot disk function. My question
is this: How do I make a reboot disk with this new
Dell? I have a CD-RW drive. (e-mail address removed)

The Windows XP CD is bootable and contains all the tools required to repair,
reformat, partition and reinstall. You will probably have to enter the
computers setup (BIOS) to set the CD drive as first boot device. (Dells come
with other CDs containing driver, utilities, and preinstalled software and
are so labeled)

Recent versions of Norton Antivirus that are compatible with Windows XP are
likewise bootable and are used in place of the "Emergency Boot Disks" you
are familiar with creating with previous versions of Norton. I would not be
surprised if McAfee operates the same way. Someone else will probably tell
you or you can consult Macafee's documentation or support site.

anti-virus boot disk are different from windows boot disks. Anti-virus boot
disks are used to boot the computer when you get a virus and then run the av
program to clean the virus. Windows boot disks are used to boot the computer
for installing, repairing, windows and updating the bios.(some other
functionsd as well)
If you want anti-virus boot disks I'm sure there is an option in mcafee to
create them
If you want windows boot disks just use the xp cd, it is bootable. Or if
dell gave you a recovery cd, it is also bootable and it also formats and
reinstalls xp.
