reboot after power out

I have two computers, one running XP home and one running XP pro. Both
tend to be left on 24/7.

I have noticed that when I have a power failure, the XP home computer
will automatically reboot. The XP Pro computer does not automatically
reboot.

Is this a setting someplace that I might have done differently on the
two machines? Or is it because of something else?

That is likely a matter controlled by the systems, not XP. Many newer
systems (including my Dell Dimension) have a "smart" startup switch. They
don't restart automatically after power loss.

Control Panel > system > advanced > Startup and Recovery
Tab > check automatic re-restart

I have a setting in my BIOS setup screens that addresses what the system
should do if there's a loss of power. Choices are "restart" or "soft off."
Check system documentation (or BIOS setup menus) for a simiilar setting.

There is normally a BIOS setting with two options (under power setup)
for what to do after a power fail - 'previous state' (which will reboot,
but only if the computer was on when the power went off) or 'stay off'.
Very rarely you may find a BIOS that also offers 'turn on' (regardless
of previous state).

Hmmm... Well, Dale... As several other people have posted, you might be
able to control that behavior with a setting in the BIOS. When I fist got
my Dell system I contacted Dell tech support and specifically asked about
that capability. I was told emphatically, "NO, the BIOS does not support
that feature". After reading the replies here from several others, I dug
into my BIOS, it's in there. Two different people at Dell were wrong.
Sorry for the earlier, misinformation.

Also check in BIOS for power-up after power-loss
Thanks, I will do that. I'll need to look for how to get to that --
assume it means capturing the start-up to go into setup.
