Morning All
Running windows XP Home Edition 2.GHz Intel processor, 1GB of ram 1 GB Hard
Drive, everything is going well, but what just wondering the pros and cons
of upgrading the system to Windows XP Professional .For example in the past
when upgraded OS , i had a small bit of third party vendor programs that did
not work, there were workarounds and driver information that corrected those
issue, however if you all think (through the pros and cons) I will make my
decision based on this newsgroups wonderful and always insightful
suggestions. I think I feel with XP PRO , some how the computer is more
<secure>, for someone on here (i forgot as usual) said that XP HE was
nothing more than a scaled downed version of XP PRO, if that be the case
what am I missing , and should not that be the reason for the upgrade?
As Usual many Thanks in Advance!
Respectfully

Doesn't sound like you'd benefit from Pro. You haven't described any problem
or limitation you're having. Home and Pro run on the same exact
architecture; they are both equally stable and secure. Pro really is for
professionals with special requirements. Check out Microsoft's site to see
the comparison chart. I'd give you the link, but Microsoft changes their
site so often, what's the point? Off hand, Pro will give you more complex
networking configurations and terminal services if you really need it

There are no cons (except for the cost). There's nothing in Home
that's not also in Professional.
XP Professional and XP Home are exactly the same in all respects,
except that Professional has a few features (mostly related to
networking and security) missing from Home. For most (but not
all) home users, these features aren't needed, would never be
used, and buying Professional instead of Home is a waste of
money.

Haha seriously, I'd pay extra for blue! Green really doesn't work for me...

Granted you will see a blue scrollie bar instead of green on the splash
screen.

The central system is identical. In particular things like memory
management, so the handling of your one GB will not be different. Pro
just has some extra facilities. Unless one of those is something that
you really *need* - and it does not sound as if you have run into one -
then save your money. A good account of the 'Pro only' extras is at
