A Park

In the Options Tab on Excel worksheet I clicked the
general tab and where it said 'At start, open all files
in' I inadvertently typed c:\documents and settings\alex
park\desktop.

This has caused a problem. When I now try to open up
Excel it will not allow it. It says shortcut index.doc:
file found is not valid. (shortcut index is a word
document I have on the desktop with Excel shortcut keys
in).

Then I get dialogue boxes saying 'send error report' etc.
etc.

It appears that Excel is trying to open using 'shortcut
index.doc' How can I sort out this problem.

I appreciate any help as I am a novice computer user and
feel like I have just blown up my computer...

Hi A,
In the Options Tab on Excel worksheet I clicked the
general tab and where it said 'At start, open all files
in' I inadvertently typed c:\documents and settings\alex
park\desktop.

Type Start, run, Excel.exe /automation

Now remove the path you mentioned in Tools options, general.

I've not had this problem but couldn't you move the file out of that folder
or rename that folder and create another with the offending name with
nothing in it?

Wow - so simple. That has solved the problem. You do not
know how relieved I am...I thought I had ruined my
parents computer!

Next time I won't be so stupid!

Maybe not on this particular subject, but if you're like the rest of us,
you'll screw up many more times.

Be prepared to keep learning.
