really bizarre Temp files problem

I've only just noticed this so bear with me as I try to explain. I have 6
partitions on this Samsung drive, and when I went to drive C: to use
DiskCleanup, it told me there were over 3 GB - yes over 3,400,000 kb - of
"Temporary files". It never lets you view these files, only tells you that
they are temporary files left behind by programs and safe to remove. But
this figure was ridiculous, I just knew it was wrong. Anyway, I decided to
delete them. As soon as I did so I noticed 3GB of space had been freed on C:
drive. Curious, I decided to do DiskCleanup on D: drive, and guess what, the
SAME thing, over 3GBs of "Temporary files". This is nuts! So I checked E:
drive, and AGAIN over 3 GBs of "Temporary files". When I got to H: drive -
the biggest partition at over 80GB - I was staggered to see it had over 34GB
of "Temporary files"! I did this for all partitions and in ALL of them I saw
GBs of space freed by these supposed "Temporary files". Given the fact I
only have Temp folders on C: drive, I cannot understand where these
additional Temporary files were stored, nor what filetype they were, nor
where the heck they came from in the first place.

But this is where it gets even more odd. I have just discovered on H: drive
at least 20GBs of video files I had - WMV, AVIs - have GONE. Poof! They were
there a day ago and I didn't delete them. Also, I checked other folders on
H: drive I knew contained video files, only to find those videos too had
vanished. Some videos, however, were still there in other folders. I am
absolutely convinced this"Temporary files" cleaning is to blame but god
knows how! Also I have just discovered as I type this that H: drive has 3GB
of "Temporary files" to clean...AGAIN! Where the smeg are they coming
from???! I'm not doing anything, they're appearing spontaneously and when I
delete them certain files of particular filetypes are being deleted! God
knows what other files I've lost because of this.

The only thing I can think of is that I recently - only a few days ago -
switched from the generic Windows IDE controller drivers, to the nVidia IDE
controller drivers my PC came with. Could this have something to do with it?
I never noticed anything like this when using the generic drivers. Or could
it be a hard drive fault? I don't have any problems with it otherwise,
accessing/reading/writing, etc.

Any takers? lol

Do you have an email account with "Level 3 Communications, Inc." in
Broomfield, Colorado? If this is not the case, stop faking any email
address! Others are not really interested in getting all that spam sent
to that domain by spam-bots.

Why don't you use particular software in order to find out.

Nothing comes out of the blue. Note that some Malware tampers or deletes
Multimedia files. Scan your system ASAP!

Interesting! And why does www.blah.com return South America instead of
Level 3 Communications in Colorado? Also do you have a problem with my
fake email address? Which is easy to figure out what the real one is?

And to solve the spam problem... Why don't backbones just trash email
that can't be authenticated? Why do they continue to operated like we
are still in the 70's for? Things are different nowadays. It is time for
a change!

The correct admonition here would be to switch to a "real" fake e-mail
address and NOT make up one that might really exist!
(e-mail address removed) often works well. Never make up your own fake
email address; if it's not used today, it might be tomorrow.

Advising someone to quit using a fake address on newsgroups is just plain
stupid, not to mention unthinking.

It's up to the Sending and Receivig ISP's to authenticate addresses, NOT the
"backbones", which are nothing but repeaters, much like the telephone system
is set up.
If you care to do a little research, you'll find things today are
drastically different from the 70's, especially in the RFC's and FYI's.

Nonsense! There are plenty of email providers offering mail accounts
with built-in spam protection. The address that I'm using for years in
public newsgroups, for instance, is a *real* address and no spam did
manage to pass that filter by now. EOD
