Real Time Protection Slows System

WARNING! I downloaded Microsoft AntiSpyware within
minutes of their first announcement and have been using
it since. The scan function is good and seems to catch
most of the nasties. But immediately disengage Real Time
Protection. It is a mess! It significantly slows down
virtually every function while the hard drive thrashes
away like mad. I'm running an Athlon 64 3400 with 1GB RAM
on a 1MB ADSL connection (don't see as how I could get a
much faster system) and my webpage loading times
increased by as much as 20 times! The Real Time
Protection comes ON as default. Turn it off! Another
example of Microsoft foisting software on the public that
is not ready for prime time!!!!

Sorry, but that's not the whole truth. I've tested MSASW on three different
Systems with Real-Time Protection enabled and found on none of them a
Performance breakdown as you describe it.

I assume that there is other Software on your system running with real time
scan capabilities like Personal Firewall and Antivirus Software, maybe from
Symantec and/or Zonelabs? Right? Or any other Antispy Software?

Anyhow, realtime Protection of MSASW is not as good as it may soud. It does
*not* really protect you from installing Spyware as it promises. I've
tested it with enabled RTP and visited kazaa.com. Also did try installing
their software on the "protected" System. Well, the warning popped up at
one time, but it has not prevented the Spy/Adware from installing, as shown
by a scan with MSASW and Spybot .

Real Time Protection really slowed my system down. Turned
it off and back to normal performance. I would not
recommend using it.

Not a reliable system either yet. Need to run Spybot to
catch all the spyware which Microsoft Antispyware does
not find.

With these 2 problems its not ready to be the only
defence.
