with 1.5GB of RAM the extra flash drive would not be productive. I cannot
see any further performance enhancement so i may as well use it for data
instead.

Maybe. Two considerations. Is your system ever maxing out on ram (check
Task Manager or Performance Monitor). Readyboost will speed up anything
that Vista writes to virtual memory and would be faster. Vista writes to
the pagefile regardless of how much memory you have.
