Hi All:
I wonder if someone else who uses a usb thumbdrive for ready boost could
tell me if their ReadyBoost drive uses FAT32? All my other drives are NTFS
file system and I just wondered if my ReadyBoost drive is set up wrong?

FAT32. For small capacities I believe it's faster than NTSF.

Either FAT32 or NTFS will work. Even with NTFS, the max size for readyboost
is 4GB, based on the FAT32 limit.

Likely not based on the FAT32 limit, but rather the 2^32 limit (upon
which FAT32's limits are based)

Hi Rock & Frank:
Thanks for the reply! Glad to hear my ReadyBoost drive is set-up
correctly. Evidently Vista must automatically set it as FAT32 since I don't
remember being asked for my opinion LOL! Maybe if I change my adminstrator
name to "Big Cheese" it will give me some respect!

The maximum file size on FAT32 is 4GB. The limit was set for ReadyBoost
because of that, even though NTFS allows a larger file size.

Lol..no problem. Mine's at FAT32 as well. That's the default format for
flash drives, I believe.

Yeah FAT32 is fast and doesnt have all the extra journalling overhead.

Which is perfect since it is just a cache for small files - Vista doesnt
even care if it doesnt find the data it wants there - it will just go to
disk.
Just a nice little access boost when it gets the cache hit.

You can also format your flash drive with NTFS and run ReadyBoost with the
NTFS. Performance difference, I'm not sure, but it's doable.

Theoretically, it'll take a performance hit using NTSF cause of the low
gig size.
