Reading Pane issue in Outlook 03

Hi there, Why is the Reading Pane setting under Tools, Options, Other,
Reading Pane, not working? Appears to be a bug with it i.e. it is marking
emails as 'unread' ie opening them when scrolling up and down the Inbox with
the Reading Pane on, despite having deselected the top 2 (of the 3 available)
options under Tools, Options, Other, Reading Pane. Grateful for any advice.
 
Do you have the instant messenger integration on? (Same location as the
reading pane options)
 
hi, under "Person Names" on the "Other" tab, the 'Display online status next
to a persons name' is selected. Is this what i should deselect? I don't see
the wording 'instant messenger' anywhere otehrwise.... Tks (ps sorry I'm
unable to try this out as I'm looking into this for s.one else who has the
issue)
 
Yep, that is the setting I described.
